Scotland’s First Immersive Tartan Experience

What if you could step inside the story of tartan! – Not just see it , but experience it. That’s the thinking behind a new project being developed in Crieff: Scotland’s first immersive tartan experience.

Tartan is one of Scotland’s most recognisable symbols. It connects people across the world – through heritage, identity, fashion and culture. Despite that global reach, there isn’t currently a place where its full story is brought together in a way that feels engaging, interactive and relevant today.

That’s what we want to change.

This new experience will use digital storytelling, immersive environments and interactive elements to bring tartan to life. Visitors will be able to explore where tartan comes from, how it has evolved, and what it means today. Not just in Scotland, but across the world.

It’s not about creating a traditional museum.

It’s about creating something more dynamic – a space that feels alive, where stories unfold around you and where people of all ages can connect with Scotland’s heritage in a meaningful way.

The project is being developed as part of a wider vision to position Crieff and Strathearn as the #HomeOfTartan. Alongside events, trails and partnerships with local businesses. This experience will help create a stronger, more connected visitor offering for the area.

Just as importantly, it creates opportunities for local people – particularly young people- to get involved, gain experience and help shape something that belongs to the community.

We’re still on the journey, and there’s more to do. But the support, conversations and momentum building around the project are incredibly encouraging.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about what this could look like and how you can be part of it.
